Interdisciplinary PhD Projects (IPhD)

One of SystemsX.ch's main tasks includes the promotion and training of future systems biologists. SystemsX.ch therefore regularly launches calls specifically aimed at promoting interdisciplinary doctoral theses. The PhD funded positions are positions in which interdisciplinary collaboration in system biologically relevant disciplines (e.g., computer science or engineering, nanotechnology, physics, etc.) are a central component.

Financial support of doctoral students

For the duration of three years, with an optional, additional year, SystemsX.ch will financially support one doctoral student in a research group by:

  • taking over the salary (according to funding regulations of the SNSF);
  • covering the cost of supplies for max. CHF 10,000 a year;
  • funding of a max. CHF 2,000 to facilitate participation at international conferences.

Training and interdisciplinary collaboration

In this way SystemsX.ch not only significantly promotes the training of young researchers, but – equally essential for systems biology – also interdisciplinary collaboration and support for promising research.

The 11th SystemsX.ch call, issued in December 2014, is now closed. There will be no further calls for IPhD Project proposals.
