SystemsX.ch/SIB Summer School 2014

Systems Medicine and its Applications

The growing importance of systems approaches in medicine lead the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and SystemsX.ch to join forces to organize the Summer School 2014, titled “Systems Medicine and its Applications”. The course took place from June 22-27, 2014 in Kandersteg.

The Summer School 2014 aimed to train students and postdocs in cutting-edge methodologies relevant to biomedical research. It introduced classical as well as newly emerging fields of systems medicine and clinical bioinformatics applications. The course addressed both theoretical sciences and clinical applications, including drug design and targeted therapies, the diverse uses of microbiomes, and the application of big data efforts to the discovery and treatment of cancer or neurological diseases.

The summer school took place in Kandersteg, a small, charming village in the Bernese Oberland (Swiss Alps). The stimulating environment generated lively and informative discussions. The 27 participants from five different countries appreciated the beautiful setting and the variety of the talks, as well as the possibility to interact with the speakers and other students in a relaxed atmosphere.
