IPPs jump-started the exploration of new research directions and ideas. These projects brought together research teams from different disciplines to address "seed" or "high-risk" topics critical for systems biology.

A total of 30 IPPs were approved between 2008 and 2011. Some of these projects run until 2013.

Please note that the new project type Transition Post-doc Fellowships that was launched in spring 2012 replaces the IPPs.
