40 new project proposals submitted

The 6th call invited research proposals that develop or apply a systems approach to the study of biological processes in the framework of Research, Technology and Development (RTD) projects. In addition, SystemsX.ch promotes public-private partnership by calling for proposals for Transfer Projects that bridge the gap between academia and the private sector.

33 proposals for RTDs …
A total of 33 proposals for a further season (2013–2016) of RTDs were submitted. About 200 research groups are involved in the 33 proposals, including all of SystemsX.ch's partner institutions as well as a number of teams from external institutions and private industry.

…. and 7 Transfer Projects submitted
The new Transfer Projects proved to have a very wide appeal. 7 applicants submitted the requested documents. At least one academic and one private research group is involved in each proposal.

The duration of the projects can be between 18 and 24 months and, if successful, can be extended to 36 months in total.

Detailed review of all proposals
The proposals that fulfill all requirements will be evaluated by the Scientific Executive Board (SEB) of SystemsX.ch and the Review Panel Systems Biology of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), comprising more than ten international experts from the relevant disciplines and six members of the SNSF's National Research Council.

Final decisions, as to which projects will be approved for funding are expected to be announced mid-December 2012.

A maximum of total CHF 30 million is available to fund the approved RTDs and Transfer Projects.

The next call for RTDs and Transfer Projects will be published in spring 2013.
