Biozentrum Lectures 2016: Reconstituting chromosome replication - Basel, Switzerland
John Diffley (Francis Crick Institute, Clare Hall Laboratory, South Mimms, UK) will present recent results on the reconstitution of the entire replisome and describe how chromatinised templates are replicated in vitro, how nucleosomes displaced during replication are re-deposited on nascent DNA, and how chromatin influences DNA replication origin choice and lagging strand synthesis. The lecture will take place on December 5, 2016 at the Pharmazentrum of the University of Basel.

First Steps with UNIX in Life Sciences - Lausanne, Switzerland
With the constant evolution of technologies, life scientists are faced with an increasing need for bioinformatics skills to deal with high-throughput data storage, retrieval and analysis. Although several resources developed for such tasks have a web interface (most of the time, the first choice for biologists), many operations can be more efficiently handled with command-line programs and utilities. This "First Steps with..." course is addressed to beginners wanting to become familiar with the UNIX environment and master the most common commands, which could be useful to run software dedicated to high-throughput data management. The course will take place on January 17, 2017 in Lausanne.

EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Course: Malaria genomics and public health - Mumbai, India
Since malaria is highly endemic in India and its transmission dynamics and epidemiology are different to African malaria, it is important that genomic technologies can be applied to understanding evolutionary interaction in the host-parasite-vector triangle in a real field setting in India. This EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Course is a step towards redefining the future of medical practice in the treatment of Malaria by incorporating genomics and will take place from January 29 to February 11, 2017 in Mumbai, India.
