Reminder: SystemsX.ch Postdoc Workshop 2016
SystemsX.ch is once more organizing a postdoc workshop in leadership and management skills. It will take place from February 17-18, 2016 in Gerzensee. As in 2015, the workshop will focus on topics such as key communication skills, dealing with conflict, and setting goals and priorities. Postdocs within the SystemsX.ch network are invited to participate. Please register before December 31, 2015.

Systems modeling workshop very well received
A condensed overview of existing modeling approaches, a lot of practical training and the opportunity to interact with specialists in different fields of modeling: that was this year’s SystemsX.ch/SIB Joint Autumn School. 27 young researchers took part in the workshop from November 8-12, 2015 in Schwarzenberg and took home new concepts and modeling knowledge that they will be able to apply in their own scientific research. Nanobodies from Camels Enable the Study of Organ Growth
Researchers at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel have developed a new technique using nanobodies. Employing the so-called “Morphotrap”, the distribution of the morphogen Dpp, which plays an important role in wing development, could be selectively manipulated and analyzed for the first time in the fruit fly. In the future, this tool may be applied for many further investigations of organ growth. The results of the study have been published in the current issue of “Nature”.

SYSBIO 2016 - Advanced Lecture Course on Systems Biology
The Advanced Lecture Course on Systems Biology will take place from February 28 - March 5, 2016 in Innsbruck, Austria. This well-established course will give 120 PhD students and postdocs as well as 20 principal investigators the opportunity to delve into topics from principles and methods through the modeling of living systems to applications in biotechnology and medicine. Leading experts from all over the world will share their expertise and contribute to a week of intense and highly interactive training.
